Here I am again at past 1am updating this blog! I can’t seem to find any other time..

Anyway, this is a short post mainly about what I wore – because I haven’t got photos of anything else! -to London Fashion Week this season. I only attended for one evening to watch the House of Evolution show at Vauxhall Fashion Scout (showcase for new talent) before going to the afterparty at The Dorsia. Thanks Katch PR for the invitation!

Sequinned Jacket & Belt – Vintage
Dress – Azorias
Bag & Headband – Topshop
Shoes – eBay?
I LOVE my sequinned jacket. I bought it two years ago somewhere along Brick Lane for £40. I didn’t know when and where I would wear it but I just knew it would come in handy one day (I  have a lot of such items in my wardrobe – I call it ‘envisioning the future’).
P9169481c.jpg

I went with Ming, my super duper friend who’s also a hairstylist/makeup artist. The ‘necklace’ (the CIRCLE) he’s wearing was made by his friend James Hock, who’s a designer, and attracted lots of attention!

We had our picture taken by a number of people but I don’t know where those have ended up… err.

P9169490.jpg P9169491.jpg

The House of Evolution show featured three new designers: DB Berdan, Danilo Gabrielli, and Lug Von Siga.

I didn’t really take any photos during the show as I was busy actually watching it with my own eyes? If that makes sense.. anyway

DB Berdan was my favourite. Although mostly pastel colours, there were lots of animal prints and I think might have spotted a bit of neon as well as some mesh. It was a FUN collection! Click here to see pics of some of the pieces from the runway.

P9169485a.jpg  P9169487a.jpg

I met with Hannah from Bow Dream Nation. This girl is a BURGER CONNOISSEUR. If you ever need advice on where to eat good burgers in London, this is your lady right here 😉

After the show, Ming and I scooted off to The Dorsia in Kensington, where we met a couple of cool Russian ladies with elaborate headwear and makeup. I know we took lots of photos together.. but not using my camera so.. I don’t have copies! I just remember there were some really funny ones!

I wanted to show off the jacket a bit more but I just ended up taking tipsy pics of myself in low light (I’ve edited them to look brighter hence the graininess), at home. Sorry! I didn’t even get a shot of the back of it!

P9179516a.jpg P9179524a.jpg  P9169507a.jpg P9179526a.jpg P9179557a.jpg P9179565a.jpg

You know why I did this stupid pose? To show off the sleeves! -_-

OK I think that’s about enough pictures of ME >.<

Some pics from the Beyond the Valley fashion launch party at their store just off Carnaby Street. The store boasts some incredibly interesting clothes and accessories from up-and-coming designers from all over the world, plus designer collaborations with their own label. Collections in-store include Julia Smith, Marcello Toshi (shoes), and Maaike Mekking.

By the time I got there it was late and packed with people.. so couldn’t take very many photos at all. Also missed out on their goodie bags! Ha ha.

Ok this time I wasn’t too adventurous and didn’t take many photos around Somerset House, what more people (unlike last year). The photos in this post aren’t too exciting but I wanted to publish this anyway for my records.

Somerset House is a beautiful place
And during Fashion Week, it gets inundated with scores of beautiful people. Mostly wearing also beautiful shoes.. although I just can’t understand running around the whole day in pain-inducing footwear. I’m much more practical these days. Try to be anyway 😉

Most of these pics were taken in the evening when the crowd had tapered down

Nature vs Fashion

On the last day that the womenswear exhibitions were on
I made my way to Somerset House again with the intention of looking at whatever I hadn’t seen earlier

Which was mainly the Topshop NEWGEN section, accessible via the terrace (facing Embankment)

DSC_0802

But as I stood outside the entrance to the tent
I looked up at the sky.. it was clear
BRIGHT, SUNNY, WARM

DSC_0803

Which meant, I simply couldn’t pull myself away from it all, into SHADED premises just to look at CLOTHES AND SHOES
Sometimes, nature really just trumps fashion

Leaning against the balcony I breathed it all in and felt so thankful that London was blessed with one more, possibly last, semi-summery day before the leaves fall and winter takes over

In that moment, fashion was a far, far away thing in my mind
Insignificant
And I was so glad

Earlier this week I attended a presentation/party at Scream Gallery unveiling the latest jewelry collection by eclectic New York label DANNIJO. We (I took my buddy Aysha along) didn’t stay the whole night, but long enough to stuff our faces with candyfloss and observe the jewelry pieces on the models/around the gallery.

DSC_0855

They had models sit around a GIANT floor-to-ceiling CANDYFLOSS tree monster
Of course the tree monster wasn’t made of ACTUAL candyfloss
The real stuff was only on the sticks the models were holding

DSC_0864

Dannijo make a lot of statement pieces using a variety of mixed metals
I think it’s great – I like accessories that stand out
Things that show clearly HEY I’M WEARING THIS OK LOOK IT’S AWESOME

Looks amazing but not sure how comfortable it is to have on
I feel like it would somewhat restrict arm movements!
I’m not one to normally sacrifice comfort for fashion..

To end the night Dannijo also gave out one of the best goodie bags ever
It included a couple of colourful bracelets 😉

A big thanks to Kristabel who invited me to join her at this presentation yesterday at Russell Chambers in Covent Garden

This season features Eun Jeong’s first foray into digital print so I was expecting to see some really funky colourful stuff
I hadn’t heard much about her before so before I went I had a browse through her previous (A/W) collection and loved what she did with the paintwork on the models’ legs/ankles and the use of coral in a few of her pieces – one of my favourite colours.

So anyway
That made me a bit more interested to see this presentation

Apparently she had once designed the uniforms for staff at a Hyundai department store in Korea. I wonder how that turned out.. am under the assumption that it didn’t have much room for creativity, hmm

P1150268

The presentation room (small) was loosely divided into sections
The first parts had models standing or sitting on chairs amongst props like dressing tables and drawer chests
Each model wore a piece from the collection and every now and then would change into a different one

I liked being able to see everything so up-close
I think, if you want, you would even touch the clothes.. haha

In the back section the rest of the collection is displayed on mannequins

P1150270

Who could miss the shoes
Strips of colourful cloth hanging off the ankle straps
As if a sign of celebration 🙂

[shoes supplied by Irregular Choice]

P1150265 P1150271

I’m not keen on all that glitter.. but there’s something that draws me to it
I guess it reminds me of kaleidoscopes. And how fun those things are!

P1150273 P1150279

The digital prints she used resemble a paint-splattering activity I did when I was at kindergarten, hehe
The model here wears my favourite piece from the collection
As for the leggings, they look like something my buddy Joyce would rock

P1150283

Close up of the print on the dress
I really love this
Clearly no limit to what colours are used.. it’s just so free and HAPPY

P1150276 P1150275

Honesty as always, these are a two of a few designs I really did not like
What is that thing on the shoulder of the white dress? It’s like an asymmetrical cropped top but folded up to reveal your boobs??
And the dress on the left just has too many things going on.. not in a good way

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Something

As much as love clothes, shopping, and dressing up, I think I realise through my lack of enthusiasm for Fashion Week (I still enjoy it, but not as much as most people who are involved are) that at this point in my life I’m not so interested in watching catwalk shows all day/having a full-on day of fashion-ness. At this stage I don’t feel I ‘deserve’ to be there, especially if I’m not passionate enough to run back home and edit photos/write a proper review immediately. Of course there are some shows I really want to see, such as Topshop, Sass & Bide, HoH,.. the list goes on. But for the reasons above I didn’t bother applying for tickets, save for 3-4 shows. I just want a small piece of LFW, you know? Just a slice. Not the whole crazy experience (omg those queues..). There are bigger and more important/passionate people for that who thrive on such things..

There are still some exhibits I want to write about but you know what – might still squeeze a couple in -, fashion week is just so over now and I need to get on with the backlog of my exciting adventures catching laundry and inadvertently standing topless in the fire escape, yeah stuff like that (true stories)!

I didn’t get many invites to shows at all during fashion week since I registered very late (not that I minded, I was happy just to be able to do everything else e.g. the exhibition as it was a big first for me). But I did manage to catch one that was going on as part of On|Off, sponsored by the BBC.

From the invitation email:
In a nutshell, the BBC have comprised a team of 10 young people (ages ranging 15 – 19) to create a collection which will be shown at London Fashion Week as part of On|Off. As well as a show at London Fashion Week, there will be a diffusion line of T Shirts with revenue going towards Children In Need. The progress will be televised for the BBC website and BBC3. We decided on the name 1.WO/MAN (said: One Woman One Man) for the name of the label as it emphasizes our creative direction with a youthful edge.

SO of course, here are photos from the night!

Photobucket

LOVE the shoes on this model
Unfortunately it was pretty tough getting a good photo during the catwalk show – I think they were in a race or something, everyone walked so quickly!
Anyhow all footwear used for the show were provided by Irregular Choice – good stufffff go check it out!

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Awesome pants no?

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

For a bunch of teenagers I think they did a fantastic job. Everything ran smoothly and I actually liked most of the pieces they designed – they were all definitely very wearable and suited to the age group they were targetting (16 – 25)

Aindrea – she’s 15! – is one of the girls who helped organise this event, check out her blog for more info and behind-the-scenes pics!

One of the highlights of the night was meeting Patricia – whom I’d met the day before at the Bryce D’Anice Aime exhibit the day before – and Kristabel, the most amazing helpful girl (big THANK YOU again if you read this, you know what for 😉 )

Photobucket

Patricia’s DIY studded shoes – fierce!

Just want to quickly share with you some photos of the Beautiful Soul exhibit
Beautiful Soul is an eco luxury womenswear label that’s only barely a year old and is the creation of LCF graduate Nicola Woods. They showed as part of Esthetica at LFW this season.

In this collection I love the oriental prints and how they’ve taken influence from the Japanese kimono structure and given it a modern, very wearable look. In fact I think some pieces are actually constructed from vintage kimonos and even saris.

The grey piece in the middle is the Rei Coat and is selling for £245
Too much for me unfortunately

It wasn’t some huge amazing party but we had heaps of fun people-watching (the crowd was really cool) and playing with the free Crackling Ice foot spray that was being given out, btw that is one amazing spray, it’s so much fun and it really crackles! Smells nice, too.

You know during the party I said to Rose, ‘oh i just saw a guy he looks like Boy George’

One thing that I noticed at the LFW exhibition was that.. in the sea of snooty people, there were also very nice and friendly people who actually are interested to speak to you about their products and ask your name. A lot of these nice people were from brands promoting green/sustainable fashion!

Anyway, Beyond Skin is an ethical footwear label based in Brighton, UK and they make.. what they call ‘vegan shoes’.

It sounds really strange and something I’d be ignorant about at first but the shoes they had on display were really not bad at all considering that nothing was made out of animal skin – recycled materials and eco-friendly fabric are used instead.

Photobucket

The new season introduces an exclusive range of luxury evening wear in addition to contemporary day wear. There will also be an exclusive vintage fabric range at the new Anthropologie opening on Regent Street next month (can’t wait – can you!).

Photobucket

To be honest the designs are more on the basic/plain side but that’s still pretty impressive for having a ‘limited’ range of materials to use. I suppose their target market is eco-conscious women who wear shoes rather than teenagers who browse tFS and fashion blogs all day.
Anyhow, I like the use of bold colours – I’m a big fan of colour, if you can’t already tell.

Photobucket Photobucket

This looks and feels just like real leather – but it’s not!

The only setback is that the shoes are quite expensive – definitely not your typical high-street brand pricing. You can shop the current collection here though – it’s on sale!
Some quick facts from their press release that I found interesting:

– Our satins are made from polyester not viscose. Viscose has a far greater impact on the environment as it’s processed with huge amounts of acid chemicals.

– An estimated 225 environmentally damaging and toxis chemicals are used in leather production. These chemicals have been linked to various cancers, asthma, and numerous other diseases
