It’s no secret that I love hanging out in onesies. You may remember that I wore my lion onesie to a lavender farm, and wore my fox onesie in Iceland. I also have a Santa one, which I used at last year’s annual London Santacon. And these are just the occasions that I’ve actually written about..However, when wandering around Shoreditch Boxpark (a pop up mall in East London) last year, I noticed Norwegian label OnePiece had set up stall there. They make high-quality, lush onesies which are meant to be the ideal loungewear for cooler climates.. without making you feel conscious about things like having ears on your head or a tail on your bum (not that I do, but not everyone is as shameless as I am).

I was recently the proud owner of a Pink Lusekofte Onesie.. and this is not even a lie – I wore it as soon as I got home that day. And the next day too. I kind of decided to skip work and laze around in my suit (not because of the suit, but it helped!).

If you’re looking to treat yourself or a loved one this Christmas, you can use the code ‘31SMALLCRAZY2’
for 20% off  all OnePiece onesies in the online store
Valid worldwide and until.. Christmas Day 2013.

And.. here’s me wearing mine!

me packaging

The suit arrived in a nice matte plastic bag with ‘the story’ at the back, which I won’t bore you with but it pretty much just tells you that the idea spawned from thoughts of creating the most perfect thing to lounge around in. By men, of course.. because women would take into consideration the fact that it’s actually rather a pain to go to the toilet in these things. Haha!

My solution is – don’t drink too much fluids and make sure to use the loo right before you put it on.

label

The material is thick and is lined with fleece on the inside.

hood

The zipper is able to be closed completely up to the top of the hood..

do not zip

And the tag, which demonstrates the brand’s sense of humour, gives you some fair warnings.

For example, it tells me not go to surfing wearing my jumpsuit because it will get wet and I can’t put it on after surfing.

It also makes a few points about not having the ‘zipper fully closed’, and to watch your crotch area when zipping up.

looking at window

Initially I picked a size XS. But it turned out too long. I suppose people in Norway are very tall and they can’t fathom such a short person as I. In the pic above I’m wearing ‘XXS’, and look how long the legs go! But it’s really very snuggly and comfy. I do love it.

hey arnold

Did you use to watch ‘Hey Arnold!’? It was my favourite show in Nickelodeon, after Spongebob of course.

me as an idiot front

The traditional prints are my favourite, but you can get it in normal solid colours and even denim-look designs.

full zip

To end on a funny note, here’s a pic of me with the ‘zipper fully closed’.

I promise I’ll one day walk out in public like this.

We visited the Black Sand Beaches of Vík after going glacier hiking/ice climbing on Day 3(see above for links). As we navigated our car towards the little, southernmost village of Iceland, the sun was already on its way to down.
It wasn’t our intention to visit this attraction in such low light but with our rather cramped itinerary, this was our only chance to see it. But you know what.. it was still BEAUTIFUL. A special, dark, windy, and scary kind of beautiful.

I love the blackness of the basalt sand. Above you can see a couple of basalt rock fingers/stacks in the distance, which are leftovers from a sea-battered cliffline that was once there.

The sea was rough and the waves were strong. We all stood watching it for a long time.. sort of absorbing its energy and marvelling its power. I imagined what it would be like swimming there. Or surfing there. I couldn’t decide what would kill me first – drowning or hypothermia.

^Here’s a video I took so you can get more of a feel!

The waves would bash the shore so hard that there would be such a huuuuge area of foam each time.

Sometimes, we would be so engrossed in our awe that we don’t realise the foam creeping up to TOUCH us. We’d suddenly realise and run away screaming.. it was so much FUN! It’s like playing catch with the sea. It’s a game I regularly enjoy at the beach, but I have to say, this one in Vík was my fastest and most exciting opponent yet.

DINNER AT HOTEL PUFFIN/HOTEL LUNDI

Following tips on TripAdvisor, we went to Hotel Puffin to eat. There wasn’t much choice in Vík really, especially since it was winter/off-peak season as well.

There are two main meats in Iceland – fish and lamb. By this time we were accustomed to most restaurant menus offering either one of these as a main. I think the menu is also more limited during winter season.

NOT that it bothered me – because Icelandic lamb is HEAVENLY. So soft, so tender, so juicy, so effing delicious!

^Dessert was apple crumble (pretty good). I also tried Lava Beer, a strong, pitch black beer with an alcohol content of over 9.4% (yesss). It had a rather chocolatey aroma. I liked it!

DAY 4 – DRIVING EAST

The next morning, we checked out of Volcano Hotel – which we LOVED – and started our journey to Jökulsárlón (the famous iceberg lagoon!) early. As we were passing Vík again, we stopped by to pick up supplies, like food… and an amazing wolf tail that I found at a souvenir shop, of course.

SOOOO this is what the place looks like in the daylight..

^This reminded me of Table Mountain in South Africa!

^Do you love the bits of ice on the ground? I did!

^Getting out photos.

The landscape was so vast and so empty. So strange and so overwhelming. So open and so exciting!

^Me with Zorro

^Iceland’s everchanging, ever-so-beautiful landscape.

^Jayna, the camera and photography enthusiast in our group.

She brought some fancy schmancy analog camera that opened up like a lunchbox. Or a jack-in-a-box. My eyes nearly popped out when she said it cost her £1000.

^Birds.. I thought this shot was rather National Georgraphic-esque? Don’t you think? Except that I took it with my iPhone and there probably needs to be more birds present..

^I LOVE THESE TWO PICS ABOVE

What kind of ALIEN landscape is that, right??  I was in a car on a road that was pretty much mine, staring at this STRANGE scene with the icy cold wind in my face. For a few short moments, I had left the planet and found another.

Laufskálavarða

One of Iceland’s oldest farms used to be here.. until it got disintegrated by the eruption of Katla (nearby volcano) in 894. That is, by the way, 1119 years ago..

*bimbo moment – sometimes I can’t quite grasp the fact that there were PEOPLE on this planet THAT long ago.. what more doing activities like FARMING. Didn’t they just live in caves and doodle on the walls?*

Laufskálavarða, the lava mound, was named after the farm. The tradition is that if you’re passing through for the first time, you add a stone to one of the bazillion stone cairns for good luck on your journey.

Honestly, they looked like piles of poo.

^I tried to ‘be one’ with Laufskálavarða.

^Erm..

^Here’s a video of us goofing around on an ice puddle 🙂

ICELANDIC HORSES

We passed by some of these curious horses loitering around the fence and stopped to say hello.

I patted a couple of them. But I don’t really understand Horse.. what more Icelandic Horse, so I wasn’t sure what they tried to say to me. We left them a bite of an apple. I’m not sure if they ate it in the end.

^Remnants/steel beams of a bridge that was DESTROYED by glacial floods caused by a volcanic eruption in 1996. Can you believe the bridge was demolished by a bunch of GIANT ICE BLOCKS?

Next up: Jökulsárlón Iceberg Lagoon.

One weekend we treated ourselves to a delicious meal of roast duck and other things. Had just seen ‘The Next Three Days’ starring Russell Crowe – which by the way I really enjoyed – and naturally was hungry. It’s instinctive isn’t it.. you have food BEFORE a movie, but you also have food AFTER it.

At the end of our evening outside the tube station, there was a pause
I didn’t feel like going home
I wanted to stay OUT
I didn’t want my day to end
But what was there to DO??

Winter in London can be quite monotonous and boring sometimes – especially when you don’t want to be spending all your money in a club/bar/restaurant.

So, after some persuasion I was tricked into convinced to take a walk through Hyde Park just as the sun was disappearing i.e. in arctic (MY version of arctic anyway) conditions.

Ended up going from one end of the park to the other
If you know just how large this park is, you’ll also know that’s quite a distance (me trying to say I walked A LOT)

But surprisingly I enjoyed the walk/stroll/skip so much that my excitement numbed the cold!
Took a few pics and laughed heaps along the way.

It’s undoubtedly the warmest one I have in my wardrobe – thick and heavy to keep the bitterness of cold air OUT

I feel like a soft toy when I’m wearing it
With only a wool jumper underneath, I’m set
I don’t need a scarf, because the collar is full and lush
I don’t need full gloves, because the pockets feel like.. wombs

The photos are a little grainy – I had to lighten it as it was dark when they were taken

As you can see, in winter there’s not much ‘fashion’ for me
It’s all thick jumpers, coats, boots, hat – it doesn’t get fancier than that

But really.. it’s WINTER. It’s COLD.

I can’t imagine those girls on Lookbook or Chictopia prancing about in lace dresses/barely there tights/off-shoulder THIN jumpers/platform heels when it’s 0 degrees outside
It actually looks a bit stupid >.<>

Sharing this pic cos I really like it!
🙂

:edit: I liked the pic so much I made a new page header out of it! It’s more umm.. festive!

The first snow in London this winter happened at the start of December.
Now that it’s snowed so much again on the 18th, I thought I should hurry up and share some photos from that first snow day

There won’t be much of a story going on.. I have no energy to type

I’m sick for the first time in a year and my head feels like the Earth..
I THINK.. playing for 3 hours in the snow on Saturday may have contributed.. or perhaps it was running out to make a snowman in my pajamas yesterday morning >.<

I bought this black faux fur coat from GigiVintage a couple of weeks back

It’s a little oversized but look, it has a tapestry detail on the sleeves and it is THE softest fur coat – or just coat – that I’ve ever felt in my LIFE. It’s so velvety smooth and when you’re in it it’s like being wrapped in a big, soft blanket! You know that feeling when you get a new plush toy and its fur is so soft and gentle against your face?

That’s what this feels like, but all over your body.

It makes me want to hug myself all day.. Sometimes I’m caught stroking my own arm
But hey if men can scratch their balls in public……

ANYWAY!

I can’t live without them

If you’re interested in what I’m wearing UNDER the coat, it’s a Uniqlo heattech long-sleeved top, oversized tee over that, and a thick lambswool jumper over THAT – yeah I’m afraid of the cold!

This is one of my favourite fur coats this winter
It has what I used to hate – CURLY fur
Like something that just came off a dog. The Yorkshire Terrier kind, perhaps.

But then I came across this..and I love it
It’s so snuggly warm and the fur is so soft and lush

I wore it to Portobello Market last weekend, paired with my favourite accessory now – a yellow beanie.
