When I first moved to London, the intention was to stay only for one year.. maybe two, max. I arrived on a working holiday visa (it has a two-year limit), after just having been granted permanent residence in Australia. SO THE PLAN WAS: have some fun, travel, blah blah, then settle back in Melbourne.

Yeah right! London is so fantastically awesome that almost eight years later, here I still am. It didn’t happen overnight, but after all this time I’ve come to realise that ‘damn, I love this place!’

It seems not everyone is a fan of London.. and yeahhhhh I admit, there was a period when I wasn’t too fond of it either. From the stories I’ve heard from my many fellow immigrants (haha), most start out hating it!

BUT. Here are the three big things I LOVE about the city I now call home. This is the stuff I blab on about – very animatedly and very loudly – whenever I get asked why I live here

Park & Outdoor Spaces

London has no nearby sandy beaches, but we have some of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL parks and green spaces! A multitude of them too, despite the city being so dense with concrete.

In the summer, I pretty much live on the grass. Some of my friends in Europe think it’s silly to wear a bikini at the park. But do Londoners care? Nope! We need all the sunshine that we can get and if the sun’s blasting then.. all plans cancelled; we’re having a picnic. And when you find long grass to lay on, your bed (and life) is made.

London sunbathing

^I like my picnics colourful. Photo taken in leafy Richmond, where there are plenty of picnic spots by the river.

Park Birthday

Being ever-so-fortunately born in the summertime, my birthdays in London are also celebrated with a big picnic at the park.
Photos above taken at Hyde Park in 2013 😉

Speaking of Hyde Park, there is this AMAZING UMBRELLA/WATERFALL TREE that you can climb all the way to the top. I love it and always make a stop whenever I’m there skateboarding as it’s near the Serpentine lake, where a lot of people skate ‘cos it’s flat and wide.

Anyway, the tree. Enter the curtain of leaves and it’s like a maze of old twisted, warty branches going upwards.. like something out of The Enchanted Wood! It’s magic. The view from the top of course is delicious. You can see my friend Luis poking out in this pic:

Hyde Park tree

^And this is what the tree’s like during the cold season..  just.. bare branches. Haha! And squirrels! I LOVE the squirrels of London.. some of them are so bold and have no qualms about walking all over you like a mat and trying to steal your food. I really enjoy that.

Of course, I enjoy other things outdoors as well..

Regents Park with my ukulele

..Like playing with my ukulele on a tree. This was at Regents Park.

Sometimes I sing, too. Or fly a giant kite with friends. Or.. swim in the Thames and get sick subsequently. Do not go swimming in the Thames.

With Emma

^Playtime with the lovely Emma. Last winter we spent an afternoon at Hampstead Heath. It’s my favourite natural space, after Regents Park/Primrose Hill as they’re my local ones (local bias, right?).

When the leaves fall, the Heath is a feast for all your senses. The ground is thick and the air rich with the smell of fallen leaves. Crispy leaves! Ohhh how I would love to be rolled around on that crunchy bed of autumnness.. like a sausage being tossed around in a pan of sizzling chopped garlic. But without the heat. Or the oil. Sorry I’m so weird.. let me get back on topic..

No doubt maximum park enjoyment is during the summer.. when there are loads of festivals, and other events/pop-ups going on.
For example, Rekorderlig built a Swedish summer house in Victoria Park once, and it was superb:

Victoria Park

You could get food and cider served by cute boys dressed in shorts and suspenders 😀

Other than these huge parks, there are also smaller, more intimate places to enjoy some greenery. E.g. the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden, nestled between the two Dalston overground stations. In their garden they have soil beds for local residents to plant food! There is a kind of hippie, chilled-out vibe to it. And if I remember correctly there was a quirky old rocking horse at the back, too.

Dalston Easten Curve Garden

^The wooden pavilion is sometimes used for creative workshops, food markets, or kids’ programmes. I’ve created some rad crayon art there myself..

There’s always stuff to do in London’s bazillion open areas, even during the freezing winter. There are the obvious Christmas markets and fairs. Then there are the less touristy activities too, like climbing up to Parliament Hill (at Hampstead Heath) to set off fireworks on Guy Fawkes’ Night (SO MUCH FUN), or trekking south-west to Syon Park to see the Enchanted Woodland (SO MANY LIGHTS). The low temperatures don’t stop people from swimming in the icy park lakes, either!

As for the summer.. hmm, this could take ages. Let’s skip to Thing #2.

Freedom of Expression

This is the beauty of London.  There is SO MUCH COLOUR in its inhabitants. You’re free to express yourself creatively no matter how ridiculous it may look or sound and I LOVE THAT. The variety of characters you can find here is immense.. The whole world is here! Whatever language you speak, you’re quite sure to find someone else who speaks it. Whatever weird, obscure activity it is that you enjoy doing, you’ll find a club for it. YOU CAN BE WHOEVER YOU WANT.

Most importantly, freedom of expression yields… crazy people. My favourite kind of people. Why do I love being in a city full of crazy people?
Because..

I can walk into a theatre and meet a bunch of smurfs:

London smurfs

^And get photobombed by a ‘normal‘.

I can wear this hideous, freaky, big-nosed mask that I got from Venice (it’s actually part of a plague doctor’s costume worn in centuries’ past), and prance around Piccadilly Circus at night like a mad tourist:

Il Medico playtime

I even managed to get my caricature drawn!

We also went into a busy McDonald’s to see if we could successfully feed each other fries through the gaps in our beaks. It was not a success.

Il Medico with tourists

^The real tourists loved us 🙂

I can get on the tube wearing my
fox onesie:

Fox on the tube

^No one gives a shit!

I can have a picnic with a bag over my head (and walk around the park chasing strangers with it on – I have a video somewhere) and have fruits as my guests, but hey it was my birthday:

Fruits picnic

I did have human guests too but they weren’t quite as exciting as the fruits.

And then there’s this scary clown putting down his newspaper to have a conversation with a cyclist passing by:

London clown

^Oh and me traipsing around Oxford Street with a guitar and balloons tied to my bag.

You can find restaurant menus like this:

Knit your own sperm

^And end up in places where they teach you how to crochet… a sperm.

Now THIS is how you ‘Boris Bike’:

Real Boris Bike

Oh I love that mask. It still sits in my desk drawer now. I do like Boris (for those unaware, he’s our Mayor) – he seems to enjoy getting involved with the community and isn’t afraid of looking silly. I don’t have enough knowledge about politics so I can’t say much more than that..

>>

But YES, being surrounded by so much creative energy, openness, an eccentricity in London has helped shape who I am today. I can be ME! I can be as silly as I like. Strangeness is mostly embraced here. I could start a one-person dance party on my street with no music wearing only my underwear and it’s fine. I could pull out a potato from my handbag and have a dance with it next to a street jazz performer – I have, in fact, done this (video is also somewhere..).

This freedom of expression was particularly instrumental in my personal development. I grew up in Malaysia, where society was a lot less accepting and less.. exposed. I felt rather limited there. Being in London OPENED UP THE WORLD TO ME.. It was like.. the drug of life (does that even make sense?).

Onto Thing #3!

Super Awesome Events

When there are so many wild/crazy/creative people.. there will be special occasions for us all to be crazy together, OBVIOUSLY.

My favourite?  LONDON SANTACON!
When else can you have a Christmas dance party on the streets, dressed as Santa, with thousands of other people also dressed as Santa?

London Santacon 2014

Just look at these weirdos! I love them:

Crazy Santas

You can read about my first Santacon experience here.

My second favourite? WORLD ZOMBIE DAY!
It’s pretty much the same as Santacon, except you dress up as zombies instead, and the music is less cheerful..

Zombie Day 2014

Some of the costumes you see on the day are freakin’ AMAZING. I really need to up my game next year, man..

Zombie mimes

^What a beautiful bunch of dead mimes!

The kind of things you can see at an East London club on Halloween weekend:

Halloween fox

^A super cool bloodied fox. And then there’s me, with two My Little Ponies and.. a box of Pocky. Haha!

There are SO. MANY. EVENTS. There’s a day for you to ride the tube with no pants. Race people while flipping pancakes (next month!). Run 5k in an inflatable sumo suit. Get your dance on at a silent disco festival. Cycle naked. Go to the Science Museum to be a cockroach. You can even smash stuff up for fun

And here, play with a insane amount of coloured powder at one of London’s Holi Festivals (there seem to be a few now – Google will disclose details):

Holi Festival London

^THAT was so much fun..

In Sweden and other Nordic countries, they celebrate the crayfish harvest season by throwing a Crayfish Party. So why not have one in London too, right? I went to a Swedish Crayfish Party last year organised by Ocado and it was hilarious!

Swedish Crayfish Party

Basically, everyone gathers to eat mountains of crayfish together. Along with other stuff, like a delicious selection of herring, salmon, cinnamon buns, and Swedish candy. Washed down with cider. And schnapps. You also have to wear crayfish hats and bibs, and sing some funny Swedish songs!

I Love London

Life in London to me has been extremely enriching. There is an endless amount of learning and experiences available. So many different cultures and people to EMBRACE! Oh and the diversity of food that that comes with..  we really are spoilt for choice. If I had to narrow down London’s best quality to one word, it would be OPTIONS.

THANK YOU LONDON for being such a fantastic playground and classroom. I have grown so much while living a such a vibrant, full life. So obviously, you’re my favourite city 🙂

Hello Friends! I am indeeeed still around. It’s a challenge to keep up with this blog stuff when the summer in London has been freaking awesome. I’ve been living in my bikini and visiting the parks just about every day. Also just got back from Lisbon recently, where I went to attend Optimus Alive and got to see one of my fav bands ever – Vampire Weekend. Life has been more than good and I’m sporting a LONDON TAN. I’m so dark and I now carry a bottle of SPF50 everywhere I go.. imagine, in London!!Here are some pics from when I took a stroll along the South Bank and visited Beanotown, just before the summer really began and when I still had to use a think jacket. I used to love reading Dennis the Menace (and Gnasher) in the comic books. The installation was really cool – you can still visit it, up until the 8th September 2013. Beano has been around for 75 years!! That’s SEVENTY-FIVE.beanotown wall

Jacket – River Island
Top – Monki
Pants – H&M
Shoes – Urban Outfitters

I kinda miss wearing a light jacket. Or maybe this is my inner voice telling me how much I miss the Copenhagen-bought parka that I lost in Rotterdam. But this could be an opportunity to get a new, less-expensive one.. it’ll be handy for when I go to Wilderness Festival in two weeks! Was looking at this selection of parkas (by New Look) – I like the jade green elephant print one.. what do you think? If it were neon it would already be in my wardrobe.. obviously

beano products

It was so tempting to WASTE my money on these Beano toys and candy.. they had so much crap that I’d LOVE to stuff my picnic bag with!!! But I practised self-restraint and simply eyed them..

dennis treehouse

You could go into ‘Dennis’ tree house’ and doodle on the walls.. Admittedly I was too lazy. And if I did go in I’d just end up drawing rude body parts all over and get kicked out or something.

People doing art and craft! It looked so boring yet relaxing.. hehe.

Many of my friends got very amused by this..  I just saw the floor decal and couldn’t resist. What ELSE is it for, right??

Trying to get some of the London skyline in.. I miss my pink hair (that I had for 5-6 weeks – it’s a faded ash purple now).

save south bank

If you’re familiar with London’s South Bank, you’ll know that there was a big petition to try to save the iconic little skate park that’s been there for years. To find out more, click here. I almost ALWAYS spend at least a few minutes watching the talented skateboarders/bmx bikers doing their tricks there whenever I’m in the area. I hope it gets to stay!

It’s my birthday today so I’m off to celebrate in the sun now.. !

I try not to spend Christmas in London. I’ve been lucky enough that most times, I do get to go away. Last year, I was fortunate enough to spend it with my family in beautiful New Zealand. All of us – my mom, dad, brother, and sister – went skydiving together.. it wasn’t the most Christmassy thing, but it was crazy and amazing! This year, however, I had to stay put as I’d taken too much time off. I was away for 14 weeks out of 52 O_OMany people had gone away on holiday or to be with family, but there were a few of us ‘sad’ ones left in London, so we decided to have Christmas dinner together…… and for some reason, I, a.k.a. the person who doesn’t cook, decided to prepare FIVE items for the event.

PC241225.jpg PC241226.jpg

I spent the night before wrapping a few presents.

859b204e4e1b11e2a1fa22000a1f9261_7.jpg

I take pride in wrapping presents.. I like to think of them as boxes of happiness! This year, I included bits of candy, Christmas confetti, stickers, and tissue paper into each box.
I used glue instead of tape on the wrapping paper so it looks neater, too.. erm..

Finished result!

PC241224.jpg

The first Christmas card I receive each year is usually from KC, a close friend of mine who lives in Melbourne. He always makes the effort to find out my current address and sends out cards way in advance!

PC241222.jpg 11c660664e9311e2935222000a1fb825 7

I made eggnog using the Waitrose American Eggnog recipe, with bourbon.

As I’m not exactly the domestic goddess and don’t spend much time in the kitchen (I’m always out >.<) .. I had to go and buy a hand whisk. And god damn it was hard work mixing everything with that primitive, non-electrical object!

The eggnog turned out great 🙂

5256f8fa4e8611e2b38022000a9e070a_7.JPG

Just the day before, I was talking to my Portuguese friend Luis, who was telling me how he was celebrating Christmas in Porto. Ok fine, I was asking about what kind of festive food they ate there.. and he mentioned leite creme, which is a Portuguese milk custard not unlike French crème brûlée. Except that it’s meant to be much easier to make.. so I did, using this recipe.

8e45693c4df511e29d6822000a9e0849_7.jpg

The pic above is of the filling I was preparing for hoddeok, a Korean pancake dessert that I had recently discovered. Recipe here. I used chopped hazelnuts instead of peanuts.

The end result!

6a7ca3484ea011e292c922000a1fb771_7.JPG

I also made a Sweet Potato Casserole with Marshmallows. It’s traditionally a Thanksgiving dish, but I thought it would be great with the Christmas turkey. I used Nigella Lawson’s recipe and it was really fantastic! My favourite part was opening each parcel of baked sweet potato and scooping out the juicy flesh to use for the next step.

All the sweet potato mash is then mixed with lemon juice and cinnamon before being baked in the oven with a layer of marshmallows on top, which melt to form a cover that looks like dinosaur skin.

The last thing on my menu was Nigella’s infamous ‘Chocohotopots‘, which I first had a taste of when Joyce made it last year. They were sooooo good. I prepared the batter and kept it in a container to bake at Linda’s house (where the dinner was being held) so it could be served hot/fresh.

PC25140 PC251241.jpg PC251247.jpg PC251248.jpg

I was really pleased with how the sweet potato casserole came out.. it was so sweet and juicy and went great with the turkey. The portion I made was too much so I got to keep the rest, and oh my it tasted EVEN better after a day or two in the fridge!

PC251255.jpg

The leite creme turned out fab.. I didn’t have a kitchen torch (of course I wouldn’t have).. so it was a bit of a pain trying to caramelise the demerara sugar on top. I had to use the broiler.

PC261320.jpg

The ramekins I got were rather large and so they didn’t fill up completely.. but they were soooo delish with the brandy pouring cream.

PC251258.jpg

Winter candle and decorative xmas stars c/o The White Company. I brought them from home to jazz up Linda’s living room a little. And make it smell nicer. The candle is an infusion of cinnamon, clove, and fresh orange. It makes you want to drink the air.. if you get what I mean.

PC251278.jpg

Linda, Joyce, Me, Su

PC251280.jpg

With Jayna & Neena too

PC251304.jpg

Some of the Christmas presents on the floor.

PC251292.jpgPC251293.jpg

Linda got me a DIY bubble machine thing.. I haven’t had the time to put it together yet but I’m definitely looking forward to it OF COURSE.

PC251308.jpg

Eggnog was served after all the presents were opened.

7

The BEST present I got this Christmas came from Jayna. She made a little photo book of our Iceland trip! It was super cool. I miss Iceland.

Other presents I got include Urbanears headphones from Marina (she’s the sweetest), a Betty Boop ashtray, a super cool mood calendar, a knit-your-own-panda-mittens kit, and some yummy things from The Body Shop.

—————————————-

Yes, I know it’s nearly 3 weeks since Christmas! I’ve been so busy with.. life in general I simply didn’t have time to document it. My very close friend from Melbourne is visiting at the moment and we’ve recently just come back from a fantastic trip to Venice. I can’t wait to write about THAT!

Thanks to Costa Bingo for offering me a bunch of tickets to go ice skating at Winter Wonderland  just before Christmas! This was my third time at the annual fun-fair hosted at Hyde Park every year since 2007 – incidentally, the year I moved to London ;)For those unfamiliar, it’s like a huge playground with various amusement park rides, carnival games, food/drink stalls and Christmas markets. There’s also an ice skating rink and a big ferris wheel set up on the grounds. Winter Wonderland keeps growing every year!PC201148.jpg

PC201152.jpg

I thought this Santa was rather freaky.. (ie My kinda Santa.. haha)

PC201158.jpg  PC201163.jpg PC201164.jpg PC201168.jpg PC201165.jpg  PC201169.jpg PC201172.jpg

Some sort of haunted house.. I bet it’s not even really scary. Hehe.

PC201177.jpg PC201180.jpg IMG_9955.jpg

Someone in the group chickened out of ice skating in the end because of the condition of the ice that night.. but the rest of us carried on. UNfortunately, the ice wasn’t kept very well by the management and it was completely waterlogged. At some parts of the rink, the water was up to about 4 inches deep!

I skated SO CAREFULLY (ie slowly, like a snail) as I warned myself I would NOT fall on the wet, slobbery ice..

In the end, we only stayed for about 20 minutes at most before giving up and heading for the mulled wine and food instead..

…at the Bavarian Beerhouse. This reminded me of Oktoberfest the year before! Prost!

PC201181.jpg

You could order mulled wine with a shot of rum, bourbon, or ..whiskey (my memory might not be 100% correct here) for something between £4-5.

PC201188.jpg

Reena and I had a few and we ended up dancing up a storm.. or rather.. dancing like morons (what’s new!)

PC201199.jpg

Paul & Steven

Steven used to live with me in Euston/King’s Cross; that’s how we met. We’ve both now escaped.. haha, I say escape because there was a third person in the flat whom we both just didn’t get along with ;p

PC201202.jpg PC201201.jpg  PC201211.jpg

They also sold 1L beers a la Oktoberfest.. for £9.

PC201208.jpg

I won’t say too much about the rest of the night as it’s rather embarrassing but the conclusion is I HAD A REALLY GREAT TIME!!

Winter Wonderland is open at Hyde Park until 6 January 2013.

I’m so excited to share pics from my first ever Santacon! I know.. where have I been all these years?? Well most times I’m away as I try not to spend the Christmas period in London.. But anyway, I’ve now done it and it was some crazy amazing fun!In case you’re not up to speed, Santacon is an annual gathering and parade of A BAZILLION SANTAS (people dressed as Santa or something Christmas-themed) in major cities across the globe. The date was set for 15th December for London (and also in NYC – though I hear it’s a little different there as people aren’t used to drinking so early in the day, haha).

IMG_9714.jpg

This was my Santa ‘kit’! A sack, hat, wand, various toys and lots of candy to give out to.. civilians on the street.

IMG_2279.jpg

There were three meeting points (East, South, and Central London) to start with that morning – these were only announced about 24 hours prior and so you gotta keep alert and follow the ‘Santanav’ on Twitter.

The East London troupe began at Shoreditch High Street. The pic above was taken by Jayna, when all the Santas had walked to and descended upon Liverpool Street station.. causing it to.. shut down. -_-
I joined the group at Farringdon (as I was late hehe), and everyone trotted along to St Paul’s.

IMG_9717.jpg IMG_9721.jpg

The whole place was absolutely BUZZING with Christmassy energy! My favourite part was erm.. when I got the opportunity to toss a couple of brussels sprouts into a sea of Santas.. (we’re told not to but everyone was doing it and I simply couldn’t help it *naughty*).

I also met some interesting people!

IMG_9716.jpg

I looooved this guy’s fur coat. According to him, he has one custom-made by a friend every year for Santacon.

He told me his name was: Bad Ass Santa Pimp Daddy, a.k.a. BASPD.

I followed BASPD around for a bit like a groupie. Later on when I bumped into him again, I noticed he wore a silver chain with a pendant that spelt out ‘I Love Pussy’. Naturally, I pointed it out and laughed.

He ran away and I never saw him again after that.

IMG_9720.jpg

I contemplated being a Christmas tree when I was deciding on my costume!! But I couldn’t find one that I was convinced would keep me warm. So I opted for.. a Santa Kigurumi (onesie)!

IMG_9723.jpg  IMG_9724.jpg

With Reena (sunnies on) and Flo.

Reena’s sack had a whole load of vodka in it. Haha!!

IMG_9728.jpg

The Santas proceeded to march across Millennium Bridge…

IMG_2964.jpg

Roger (her new nickname), Flo, Me, Reena.

IMG_2973.jpg IMG_2966.jpg

We had a bit of a Santa band going on.. me dinging my triangle and Reena + Roger a bit too vigorously shaking the maracas.. at one point we spotted some Mexican Santas (they had the hats), ran towards them and went crazy with the maracas! I wish there was a video of that so I can see how crazy we must’ve looked..

IMG_9733.jpg IMG_9735.jpg

Whilst I applauded Flo’s ambitiousness to go all the way with her Santa costume and purchase an inflatable belly.. I have to say.. I mean. She looked like a deformed alien baby was bursting out of her!! LOL. You gotta hand it to her though.. she wore that thing for a number of hours..

IMG_9736.jpg

Party Santas and their music! Everyone was loitering outside the Tate, dancing, jumping around, singing, handing out presents. Poor kids. I think every child that walked past was chased down by a few Santas each time because we were all over-eager to give out our candy :p

Tate Modern Takeover

IMG_9753.jpg

Santa decided to visit the museum.

It was SO MAD!!! All of a sudden the whole concourse was FILLED with red and so much noise – to the bewilderment of tourists and visitors inside.

DSC_0159 copyb.jpg

You know what’s freakin awesome?? Manon, a Belgian girl whom I’ve known through her blog for a couple of years now, took this photo above. She happened to be at the museum and was snapping photos of the sudden influx of Santas. She then went home and was editing pics for her blog when she noticed that *I* was in it!

IMG_9743.jpgIMG_9742.jpg

The guy on the left was hilarious.. he brought an analog telephone receiver and I saw him speaking into it.. goodness knows what nonsense he was spouting but I wish I could’ve heard.

IMG_9748.jpg

The Tate Modern part was one of my FAVOURITE parts. Everyone squeezed in till the floor was PACKED… and then.. everyone laid down on their backs simultaneously and spontaneously, forming a flat sea of crazy drunk Santas. It was so super funny I just laid there laughing while Roger tried to take a photo (but it ended up too blurry to share).

IMG_2300.jpg

Teamed up with some strangers to form a Santa pyramid.. !!

IMG_2302.jpg

Don’t know who the girl is at the bottom.. I think she was trying to have her photo taken with our awesome pyramid -_-

IMG_9762.jpg

After a whole lot of dancing, blowing whistles, confetti-popping etc, the hoard moved along the Thames.. for some reason my memory of this section is a bit.. blurred. Hmm……

Oh god that Alien stomach was still around at this point..

IMG_9765.jpg

I love my fleece Santa onesie <3

IMG_9771.jpg IMG_9776.jpg  IMG_9777.jpg

Apparently it’s quite common to catch a drunk/insane Santa climbing all sorts of inanimate objects around London.

We saw this dude and some people on the ground were chanting ‘Jump! Jump! Jump!’, whilst his mates were trying to change everyone’s chants to ‘SAFETY! SAFETY! SAFETY!’ . Aww so sweet!

My blurred memory tells me we crossed another bridge over to Embankment after this.. and I think I had a few dancing sessions with buskers along the way as well. You just couldn’t help it! Everyone was in such a happy bouncy mood.. in fact sometimes I was dancing to absolutely no music at all. Only the music in my MIND.

IMG_9788.jpg

After making a pee-stop/drink-stop at some bar, we carried on to the most reliable restaurant ever – McDonalds. WE ATE LIKE THERE WAS NO TOMORROW.

Cos we needed the energy.. as the next event on the list was the big meet up at Trafalgar Square! This is when all groups from the three meeting points earlier congregate in one area and go berserk.

IMG_9791.jpg IMG_9800.jpg IMG_9810.jpg

This was a group of sweet, innocent carollers trying to sing a few Christmas tunes at the Square.. until:

HAHA! I’m in there somewhere!!

IMG_9817.jpg IMG_9826.jpg

If you’re a Londoner you’ll know that the Christmas tree erected at Trafalgar Square each year since 1947 is a gift from the city Oslo as a token of thanks for British help during the second world war. It’s rather a tall tree.

So it was much to my amazement when a topless Santa climbed all the way to the TOP and left his hat there! Everyone was cheering him on. The story is that when he got down, the security guards pounced on him immediately, but all the Santas nearby tackled the guards so that Tree Climbing Santa managed to run away ;p

IMG_9835.jpg

We partied on through Covent Garden, to Leicester Square, to Piccadilly Circus..
Harrassed a few people on the way.. and belly-bumped other Santas when we saw them!

IMG_9845.jpgIMG_9846.jpg IMG_9847.jpg

We were sitting on the steps outside some theatre to rest our feet when I thought of a great game, i.e. Yell Out Random Boys’ Names and See Who Answers. We made a friend called David. See, it’s a good game!

IMG_9856.jpg  IMG_9854.jpg

Wasted Santa became a photo opportunity for some 😉

Fromj

With a couple of new friends (thanks Jeremy for the photo)!

Some guy made a super cool video of Santacon – found it on YouTube.. wow!

SO that summarises my 12 hours at London Santacon 2012. Yeah, I was at it for about 12 hours! My Santa duties didn’t stop until I had gone INTO my building. When I was walking home from my tube station, I got stopped for photos and people asking for presents. Aww. It was soooo much fun!  😉

If you haven’t participated in Santacon before, you must! Check out www.santacon.co.uk for more info.

*special thanks to Jayna for a few of the pics. all photos except jeremy’s taken with the iphone (4/5)*

I thought I would share some photos from Notting Hill Carnival, which took place last week over the bank holiday weekend. This was my fourth time at the Carnival.. although one time (in 2010) I only just walked AROUND it so maybe that can’t be counted.

I took the Carnival as an opportunity to wear some bright colours.

But.. I guess that sentence doesn’t really mean anything when I wear bright colours on an almost daily basis anyway.

Kind of a rubbish pic of me but unfortunately it was the only one available..
Upon closer inspection of this photo, I think I’m just going to give up wearing this style of Converse shoes.

Three different styles of cooking jerk chicken. I LOVE jerk chicken. I had two servings that day.. and also goat curry. I LOVE Caribbean goat curry..

In fact whilst typing this I had a short pause/moment of insanity in which I contemplated running out to find some of that delicious food. But it IS 9.30pm, dark, and cold out so NEVER MIND.

My birthday this year fell on the same day as the London 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony. My friend Izan got us and my sister tickets to The Fringe, a pop-up private members club located about 100m from the Olympic Park, to watch the ceremony on a big screen.

My sister is only 16, but luckily.. she managed to pass as 18. Hehe.

P7278857-001.jpg
Dress – Rare
Necklace – Gift from Joyce (she bought it in Bangkok I think)
Sandals – Deena & Ozzy
Bag – ESPRIT
P7278861.jpg P7278873.jpg

The atmosphere was amazing and they let just the right amount of people into the venue – which I think is crucial to the success of any event.

Although.. there needed to be more food stalls. We waited 45 minutes in a loonngggg queue just to get a burger!

P7278876.jpg

We had a great view of the Red Arrows/Blue Arrows/Red Blue Something?? (sorry.. I can’t remember) planes flying past.

P7278882.jpg P7278881.jpg

It rained unexpectedly all of a sudden and everyone rushed back into the building (where the bars were)!

P7278877.jpg

Apart from some problems with the sound system at the beginning, the whole screening of the ceremony was fun! I especially enjoyed the part where MR BEAN appeared.. of course..

For some reason, I’m trying to pull out more details about the ceremony from my my mind but can’t seem to remember much other than there was a giant Voldemort and.. Mr Bean. And a grumpy The Queen..

P7278898.jpg IMG_5900.jpg

This was the only pic we have together – a grainy one from my iPhone. SAD.

And now.. I present you some REALLY SUPER AWESOME pics of the fireworks!umm I think they’re awesome anyway.. haha

P7288932.jpg P7288912.jpg P7288918.jpg P7288926.jpg P7288931.JPG P7288927.jpg P7288928.jpg

Yep.

That’s pretty much my whole Olympics 2012 experience. Sadly I didn’t attend any sporting events, and neither did I set foot in the Olympic Park. The whole thing pretty much just passed me by.

I SHOULD BE ASHAMED!

But I’m not. I did watch a bit of the gymnastics on TV, you know…..

As the whole universe knows, this June marked the Queeeeen’s 60th year on the throne. The reason I go ‘Queeeeen’ with so many Es is because I just find the word so funny!I was slow to the party (actually, I was in Croatia getting a tan that weekend) but look here *pats self on back*, I have managed to stage a one-person-and-Dale Jubilee Tea Party. In my bedroom. There was meant to be a lovely very tea-partyish table cloth as well, but I had no free table to utilise.

Aren’t I just so ridiculous? Look at me! I don’t even really drink tea! Anyway here are the pics. If the Queeeeeen ever saw them I know she’ll be wishing she joined me…. I just know it.

A couple of days ago I scored two tickets to see the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra perform ‘The Best of Broadway’ as part of the Hampton Court Palace Festival.

The show was meant to start at 9pm so after a WONDERFUL candlelight dinner prepared by Mr Y we took a long bus ride down to Hampton Court.

The weather was cool and the evening sun was out
I wore a light-blue wool blazer that I picked up also from Vintage for Sale
It’s slightly big but so soft and warm.

I also brought along this huge bag that I got recently from Topshop..
It’s a gorgeous bag!
It looks giant on me especially in these photos – let me tell you what was inside!
– bag of cherries – 2 packets of Wotsits – scarf – cardigan – cashmere sweater
– the usual camera, phone, keys, notepad, makeup, sweets, pens etc

The event ushers were so cute in red!

The garden at the back was huge and so so beautiful
The atmosphere was so serene and there was a guy playing soothing guitar
You could even hear insects talking
People were sitting around having food and drink and picnics

Before it started

Cameras weren’t allowed during the show which was amazing with all the lights and especially when they did the Grease medley and songs from Mamma Mia!
